He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress where I will never be shaken.

Evening Gown Guidelines
Please adhere to the following guidelines when choosing a dress.

Finding a modest gown:

• A practical guide to gauge a neckline is by placing a ribbon or measuring tape under the arms and around the chest and shoulder blades. While keeping the ribbon snug, the line will mark the top of the breast. The neckline of the dress should not dip below this line. However, if your dress does dip below the line, you should find a piece of material that could be sewn into the dress to cover any low places. This would also be an ideal opportunity to speak with your daughter about placing her hand on the neckline of her dress when she bends over. If she thinks this is unnecessary, have her bend over in front of a mirror. She can see for herself.

• If you are purchasing a strapless gown, the gown should stay in place without the young lady tugging or holding it up. Basically, the gown should stay in place. Again, remember the dances when shopping for a gown.

• The back of the dress should not fall below the bra line. Dresses that have a narrow (5” width maximum) area that laces are fine. An area wider than 5 inches must be lined with fabric. Please use discretion.

• Long gowns are encouraged, but not required. Short dresses must be no shorter than 2 inches above the knee.

• A kick plate is the slit at the bottom of the skirt allowing more freedom to walk. Slits can be in front, back, or sides, but should not any higher than the knee.

• The fabric of the dress should have enough weight that a young man dancing with a young lady would feel there is something between him and skin. For instance, a slip would not have enough weight.

• No side or front cut-outs are permitted.

• Undergarments must be worn under dresses.

• Shoes- please remember you will be on your feet most of the night. Comfortable shoes are a must.

In the event that a young lady arrives in an evening gown that does not quite comply with the above guidelines we may either borrow a tuxedo jacket from one of the gentlemen or provide a shawl to the young lady to wear for the evening.

As always, if you have any concerns about a particular evening gown, please feel free to contact either Kim or Terri at homeschoolformal@yahoo.com.

Thank you,
